Iv'e been wanting to do a post like this for a while now in order to offer even more resources to help our clients feel more confident and comfortable in front of a camera. Since the Fall season always brings us so many families, now is the perfect time.

We started out this particular evening with Ehuriel and Maria's family which include a couple of very cool teenagers; and finished up with Tony and Ruby and their adorable kiddos.  Bryan and I loved these families so much we didn't even notice the "clock" and shot right though our allotted time - not a hard thing for us to do!  And don't even get me started on location... both sessions were shot at the same location. Bet you couldn't tell by just looking, right?

Hope you all love these images as much as we do.  And don't forget to take notes especially if you're planning on getting your family pictures taken any time soon.

If you’ve never taken professional family photos before or if you simply want to improve on your last session, here are a few tips which we use that will leave you with exceptional images.  Enjoy!

Use Your Surroundings

Very often, standing upright in the middle of a room or the great outdoors can make your photos look and feel stiff. Theres usually always something in your surroundings to make you feel more comfortable. For example, a wall, a fence or a tree can be used to lean up against, and if that fails, you can always just lean up against a sibling, a friend or a member of your family!

Get Close

The last thing you want is a family portrait that looks stiff and awkward. The secret to creating a beautiful, intimate family photo is to get close. Snuggle up with the people you love if you want the best photos.

Keep it Natural

When you overthink posing, it takes away from the genuineness of your photos, which is why it helps to shoot your family photos in a setting where you’re all comfortable. For example, if you’re in an outdoor setting, take your little one for a walk. If you’re shooting at home, snuggle up for a story. Trust your photographer to take the lead and relax!

Have Fun

Your photos always look more authentic when your family is genuinely having fun and laughing. Spend time talking about moment or a memory that makes you all laugh out loud. These candid moments always make for the best photos.
