July is peak season for lavender farms here in the Pacific Northwest. I am almost ashamed to admit that I haven't made it a priority to photograph in any of the many lavender fields in our area. When I started researching where to go with Kevin and Kayla for their family session (this year she requested lavender), I was amazed to find at least 10 farms in our area! Some just outside of Portland and some a few hours away but definitely worth the drive.

Most of these farms have free admission during the day and feature activities and delicious smelling products, but if you're going for the purpose of photography and like to shoot in golden light like we do, then all you have to do is make an after hours appointment, and for a reasonable fee you can have the place to yourself with all the golden light you can take in!

We ultimately decided on Mountainside Lavender Farm in Hillsboro and boy are we glad we did! The owner, Bill was very helpful, he pointed us in the right direction. The use of any props on site were at our disposal, including freshly cut bouquets of Lavender. Before we left he insisted we take a bouquet home. My bouquet of Lavender is still displayed on my dining table and every time I sit there I enjoy its refreshing aroma!

We just can't say enough about Kevin and Kayla's beautiful family. It's been an overwhelming pleasure to serve them once again! Every year these gorgeous girls get taller and prettier, we look forward to exploring nature with them and getting to know them better each time.
