It smelled like campfires as we walked along the narrow footpath. The sound of running water got louder and louder as we got closer to the creek.  We spotted an area where the light was filtering through the trees lighting up each branch on its way down.  The air got cooler.  She had goosebumps on her arms and he hugged her tight to warm her up.  He gave her a single red rose because that was what he gave her when they started dating, and because a single red rose is what he gave her the day he asked her to marry him. 

We were seeing the forest through their eyes.  Reza and Elize were our guides. He knows this stretch of the Sandy river like the back of his hands. He showed us his favorite spots, pointed out trees and views, took us off the trail to areas that only the locals would know about.  My favorite quote from that day was "at the three tree stumps turn left".
